Style is dynamic, but there’s no denying the timeless appeal of classic fashion. Even until today, Swiss watchmaking company Longines stays true to its identity, providing wearers with timepieces built on tradition, elegance and performance. This year’s Baselworld is no different as the iconic brand puts forward an impressive selection of watches.
During our visit to Baselworld, the world’s most prominent watch and jewellery show, we were given the golden opportunity to chat with Longines CEO Mr.Walter Von Känel. When asked about his favourite watch, he drew our attention to the collection of Conquest V.H.P 3 Hands on the table, stating that he was indeed wearing one of the very same watches himself.
The Conquest V.H.P (which stands for Very High Precision) is one to keep your eye on; featuring a high-precision movement developed exclusively for Longines. Using a Gear Position Detection system, the analog watch has the ability to reset its hands after an impact or exposure to a magnetic field, providing close to no discrepancies in time (only ±5 sec/year). The latest model on display at Baselworld, with its black dial and braided rubber strap, effortlessly straddles the line between sporty and refined.
According to Mr.Von Känel, discerning watch lovers are paying more attention to design aesthetics than ever. The new breed of watches brings together innovative elements and classic features, such as the latest HydroConquest. Ultra-resistant yet undeniably sleek, the innovative ceramic bezel plays well with the grey, black and blue sunray dials.
Preserving the traditional style of diving watches, the HydroConquest is water-resistant for up to 300 metres, complete with a unidirectional rotating bezel, screw-down crown and case back, crown protection and a double security folding clasp with integrated diving extension. Super-LumiNova, which adorns the hands and hour markers, allows easy time-reading even under low lighting conditions.
Another iconic piece, which comes from the brand’s Heritage line, is the Longines Legend Diver watch, a reissue of a diving watch from 1960. While the codes and design that are typical of the sixties are retained to perfection, Longines lends its watchmaking expertise to this contemporary edition, giving divers practicality and performance. The black lacquered dial, accentuated with Super-LumiNova indexes, digits and hands, is matched with a new Milanese mesh bracelet to celebrate the 10th anniversary of this reissue, for a watch that’s equally stylish both under and out of the water.
Speaking of innovation and excellence, Mr.Von Känel recommends the Longines Master Collection, the brand’s flagship since its launch in 2005. The ultimate breakthrough lies in the annual calendar feature, controlled by an exclusive mechanical movement that automatically manages the varying lengths of the months.
This allows the timepiece to distinguish between months with 30 and 31 days – absolutely no manual intervention required! The Longines Master Collection is the first range from Longines to carry this unique feature, making a favourite among true watch collectors.
“At Longines, we pay equal amounts of attention to men’s and women’s timepieces,” said Mr.Von Känel. Take feminine grace to different heights with the evergreen La Grande Classique, the Longines Elegance his-and-hers collection, or even the gold-detailed Record watch.

Currently, Longines’ turnover ranks third worldwide, coming in after Omega and Rolex, further cementing its image as a leading brand in the industry. Mr.Von Känel adds that the brand aims to strengthen its idea of watchmaking through its precision workmanship and timeless designs. With its stability in Asia, Longines is looking into entering the American market with confidence.
As watches ranging between 1,500 and 3,000 Swiss Francs (approx. RM6,100 – RM12,200) are most well-received, Longines is ready to take on the challenge of providing consumers with reasonably-priced yet superior watches that not only capture the attention of new Longines wearers, but also continue to deliver its signature expertise to existing aficionados all around the world.
Equipped with a L289.2 quartz movement, the Longines Conquest V.H.P. Chronograph features a 30-minute counter at 3 o’clock, 60-second counter at 6 o’clock and 12-hour counter at 9 o’clock positions respectively. Thanks to the intelligent crown, manipulations are now simplified.
The date aperture at the 4 o’clock position makes for convenient date-reading, while the vivid red central second hand provides accuracy and clarity at first glance.
With a variety of dials ranging from blue, carbon fibre, silver or black, the exceptional timepiece puts its best face forward for every occasion, with either a steel/black PVD bracelet or a blue/black rubber strap to match the wearer’s personality.
